The Police Co-operative Credit Union’s (PCCU) philosophy and values were established to reflect International Credit Union Principles. The institution’s goal and objectives have implications for goal achievement and success in the areas of: ∙ Financial Operation ∙ Products and Services ∙ Technology ∙ Organization and Management ∙ Education and Training ∙ Strategic Alliances The PCCU was initially registered as the Police Co-operative Credit Union (St. Christopher & Nevis) Limited on the 20th January, 1984 under the Co-operative Societies Act No.2 of 1995. We are presently registered under the Co-operative Societies Act, No. 31 of 2011. The PCCU emerged from humble beginnings in 1984 under the leadership of Mr. Stanley V. Franks and Mr. Felix A. Hodge (Co-founders). The Society was intended solely to serve Police Officers. However, in 1989 because of its positive impact and potential, within five (5) years of operation, its services were extended to Prison Officers, regular Fire and Rescue Services, regular St. Kitts and Nevis Defense Force Officers’ serving Police Officers’ their spouse and Children and Auxiliaries. The Credit Union operates from the Police Cafeteria Building, immediately west of the Police Headquarters. By the mid 1990’s membership, savings, loans and reserves started to escalate. The financial services of the PCCU were limited only to savings (shares) and loans, with automatic insurance, a privilege of members. The PCCU is one (1) of the Credit Unions that make up the St. Christopher and Nevis National Co-operation League Limited (SKNNL). The Stature of the Police Co-operative Credit Union grew overseas, and it became recognized as a model institution in the OECS in the mid 90’s. Its success can be credited to its stable financial and political environment, dedicated membership and its management and business principles. The SKNNL is also affiliated to the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU), Secretariat, situated at Fortlands, Basseterre, St. Kitts.
